The Readiness App: Privacy

Last updated November 5, 2026. Plain English, because you should not need a lawyer to read this.

The short version

Everything you type into the app stays on your phone. There is no account, no login, no ads, no tracking and no analytics. I never see your plan, your contacts or your lists.

What stays on your phone

Your family plan, the names and numbers you add, your safe word, your kit and go bag lists, your tasks, your checklist progress, your settings, your news picks and the last weather the app saved. All of it is stored only on your phone. It is not sent to me or anyone else.

The one thing that leaves your phone: weather

When the Weather tab gets your forecast, it sends a rough location to the National Weather Service, a U.S. government agency. The app rounds your location to roughly the nearest half mile first, so it is your area, not your address. Like any website, the Weather Service also sees your phone's internet address when the app asks. This happens when you open the Weather tab and your saved forecast is old, or when you tap Refresh weather. In Grid Down it only happens if you tap Refresh weather yourself. It never happens if you keep location turned off.

Location

The app asks for your location for three things: your coordinates on the Signal tab, the compass, and the weather. Your coordinates and compass stay on your phone. Only the weather sends anything, as described above. The app does not track you in the background.

Camera

The app uses the camera only to turn on the light so it can flash SOS. It never takes pictures or video.

Texts, calls and links

When you send the We're OK text or share your plan, the app hands the message to your phone's own messaging or sharing app. It goes out through your phone and your carrier, the same as any text you send. Call buttons open your phone's dialer. Links to news, YouTube, Facebook and sources open in your browser, and those sites have their own privacy rules.

Apple and Google

Apple and Google run the app stores, so they may collect things like download counts and crash reports under their own rules and your phone's settings. I do not add anything to that.

Deleting your data

Go to Settings, then Erase all my data, and everything goes back to the starting lists. Deleting the app also deletes everything it stored. Since I never have your data, there is nothing on my end to delete.

Kids

The app is made for adults and families getting ready together. It is not directed at children under 13, and it does not collect information from anyone.

Changes

If this ever changes, for example if the app starts sending anything new, I will update this page and the date at the top before that version comes out.
